Things I Eat

After we finished out Parker’s waffle, we stepped down about 15 feet to the Portland Soup Company. Food Network was actually filming there today, and I think they got video of my ordering some beer and cheese soup.

The soup used Tillamook vintage cheddar and Hub lager.

This soup was freaking amazing! It wasn’t overly cheesy or salty, and it came with a good crusty bread for the dipping.

They had some other amazing sounding soups on the menu also, and I really feel the need to go and try them all.

The menu changes with the seasons, and uses lots of local and fresh stuff, which is nice

That’s my friend Cari holding my sausage…and a waffle.

Cari was visiting from out of town and said she was sorta craving a waffle, so we hopped on the Max and went to Parker’s.

I’ve been there before, but have only had a plain waffle with maple butter.
This time, we went for the bratwurst, cheese, and sauerkraut  all wrapped up in a waffle.

It was messy, but pretty damn tasty
I’ve never had a meat and cheese filled waffle before, but I really want to have more of them.
Next time I might go for the ham and cheese…or chicken and waffles

If you’re ever in Seaside, Oregon, you gotta check out The Buzz candy store. It’s pretty much the best candy store ever.

On this trip I picked up a piece of maple covered bacon.

It’s another piece of delicious awesomeness that they make there at the store. We also had a chocolate covered Pop-Tart, which was almost disgustingly sweet…but kinda yummy

It’s a sad day when bacon doesn’t taste good…

We stopped into Beach Bites in Seaside, Oregon, and their menu looked pretty good. There was an entire section devoted to deep fried items like twinkies, candy bars, etc.

I decided to go for the bacon wrapped corn dog and a piece of battered and deep fried bacon. Sounds awesome, right?

Not so much…

Skinny nasty hot dog, wrapped with paper thin cheap-ass bacon, and battered with some sort of corn batter that was not good.

The deep fried bacon was the same way…

I ate them though… It’s just too tough to let any bacon go to waste.

I’ve heard of Cheerwine online in various snack-exchange forums. I think it’s mostly a Southern thing.

I found it at a specialty soda shop in Seaside, Oregon. It’s a very carbonated cherry soda, and it’s made with real sugar, which is nice

It’s pretty tasty, but it came at the price of $2!
It’s always nice to try a different beverage though, especially when you’ve heard about it for a while.

My boss had been telling me about a pizza and sandwich place in Hillsboro that he’s been going to a lot lately called Gold Crust Pizza.
We decided to have a lunch meeting there so all the leads and supervisors could check the place out.

We all ordered the Torpedo sandwich: Italian beef, pepperoni, mozzarella, toasted in the pizza oven, and it comes with au jus for the dipping!

It was a pretty good sub! Bread was awesome… The meats were good… The au jus was a great idea… I’m used to just dipping roast beef in au jus, but I totally agree with the concept they have going on here

Oh, and it was pretty filling too! Not too bad for $5.50…..or free when the boss buys

I totally plan on coming back to try the other sandwiches and the pizza. They’re a great little local place, so if you are in the area, check them out!

We went to visit our friend, Bill, in Michigan, and he told us that he had been smoking some ribs all day.

I don’t really care for ribs, neither does Sara, but we tried to be excited about it… It had to be better than airplane food.

These ribs were pretty damn amazing.

The picture doesn’t do them justice, but they were literally fall-off-the-bone, perfectly seasoned, and delicious.

The next day, for lunch, I made a rib meat sandwich with bacon-mayo… That was pretty damn good too

Time to invest in a smoker!
